Deeba Qadir MSc is a Trainee Fire Engineer at F.I.R.E. Consultancy. Based in our Milan office, Deeba recently had the opportunity to take part in our staff exchange programme, in which staff from our head office in the UK switched places with their colleagues in Italy. Here is Deeba’s experience.

As part of F.I.R.E. Consultancy's staff exchange plan, I got the opportunity to work from our head office in South Wales from September 8 to 12, 2025. The program aimed to improve collaboration and diversify professional perspectives, proving to be a valuable and memorable experience for me.

My colleagues welcomed me kindly from the first day. Their assistance and direction throughout the week enabled me to adjust quickly and feel at ease in a new work environment. I found everyone to be personable and helpful, always willing to offer knowledge and experiences to help me.

One of the most rewarding aspects of this exchange was getting to know my colleagues personally. Beyond the professional interactions, the week created opportunities for meaningful conversations and healthy discussions about both work and broader industry challenges. 

These exchanges helped me to appreciate the different perspectives and approaches that colleagues in another location bring to their work.

The experience also offered insights into the unique working culture and challenges faced. Observing and participating in their processes allowed me to experience first-hand how  fire engineering first principles are applied, aligning with our shared company values and standards.

Overall, this exchange was a positive and highly beneficial experience. It not only strengthened professional ties but also fostered mutual respect and understanding between our offices. I’m grateful to my colleagues in Swansea for their kindness and collaboration, which made this opportunity both enjoyable and educational.
